RCA Radiola Model 18

This beautiful AC powered set has been fully restored and is in excellent working condition. The RCA Radiola Model 18 is a beautiful example of the golden age of radios and was made in 1927 or 1928. This is a large, impressive looking radio at approximately 28" wide, 9" high, and 9" deep. Built using solid wood rather than verneer, it is also quite heavy.

Here is a wonderful advertisement for the Radiola 18 which was run in 1928 (you can click the image to see the full-sized version). Incidentally, I am also offering an RCA Radiola 100A speaker as shown in the ad alongside the radio. Please contact me for further information about a package price for the two units.

All knobs are original. Tuning is smooth, but like all Radiola 18 sets, the tuning condensors benefit from an occasional light lubrication. Tuning, as was common during that era, is on a scale of 0 to 100. Unlike most of the Radiola 18 sets found today, this set has the original RCA hood over the working dial light.

The case is in beautiful condition, restored in the original walnut finish with over 12 coats of gloss lacquer top coat.

Even the back of the set is finished very nicely.

This Radiola 18 is an example of the AC-powered sets which used a number 80 rectifier tube to supply the necessary DC voltages to run the radio. The power supply has been fully restored and has the correct style cloth-covered power cord with the correct type of plug so that it is both fully functional and safe to use.

This set has been fully electrically restored including recapping. To maintain the original appearance, new capacitors were built into the original metal cans which housed the old capacitors. All of the tubes are in top condition and the set is fully functional. When connected to an external speaker, antenna, and ground, this set pulls in many radio stations easily.

This set is currently available for $450 plus shipping. Sold

It is in very fine condition and would be a wonderful, fully working addition to any collection.

A complete schematic for this unit along with a copy of the vintage RCA Service Notes will be supplied with the unit to aid in any future servicing years from now.

Please contact us with any questions or to inquire if this set is still available. We will be most happy to supply any additional details.
